Lake Eyre, Birdsville and Innamincka
Departing from Charleville, we fly over the Grey Range and Cooper Creek to Windorah, where we have lunch in the Western Star hotel. From there we fly west to the shore of Lake Yamma Yamma before turning north-west to the Diamantina River and overfly the tiny settlement of Betoota and thence via the main channels of the Diamantina to Birdsville.
At Birdsville, we join a sunset tour of Big Red before dinner and twin-share motel accommodation in the iconic Birdsville Hotel.
The next morning we depart for Lake Eyre, overflying Goyder Lagoon then following the Warburton Creek to the northern most point of Lake Eyre North. Following the Warburton Groove south over the vast reach of the Lake, we reach Hughes Island where we turn west to land at William Creek.
After a stroll around the William Creek settlement, we lunch in the William Creek Hotel before departing for Innamincka. Our flight path takes us over the southern bays of the lake then to the crossing of the Birdsville Track and Cooper Creek. We follow the Creek north to the large wetland area comprising the Coongie Lakes, thence to Innamincka.
At Innamincka we enjoy drinks and nibbles on the banks of the Cooper before dinner in the Outamincka bar. Accommodation is twin-share in motel style rooms.
The return to Charleville the following morning is via the Cooper, the oilfields and the vast expanse of mulga scrub.
Note that depending on the spread of water and the time available, by request and at the pilot's discretion there may be variations to the actual route flown. Landing at some additional locations along the way may also be possible.
